Our Producers

What could we do without them?

Ar Men Du has decided to present its main producers.

Without the best fishes of Benodet or Audierne, chesses from Riec -Sur-Belon, Mushrooms from Auvergne in the center of France or the Beef and duck from Chalosse in the South West of France we would not be able to bo what we aim to do: Excellent product cooked "à la minute", each ingredients as frech as possible, The real taste of each fish, vegetable or fish!

atrick Le Guen strives to release the goodness of the products he works with to the greatest extent possible by cooking over a gentle flame and by giving preference to the freshest vegetables.

We work with many local producers in order to select country-fresh products which bring to you the richness of natural products (oysters from South Brittany, cheeses from Riec sur Belon, fishes from Guilvinec and Concarneau, poultry from Pont Aven, cider from Nevez, dairy products from Briec farm, and so forth), and products which are field-grown (vegetables from Concarneau and Plougastel).

Patrick Le Guen loves offering you harmonious flavours, from the appetizer to the desert's sweet touch. As you will see on our menus, the desserts are an important part of our pre-selected menus.

At the same time, Men Du has always liked to give you a real sense of freedom when dining with us. Each appetizer, dish or dessert on all of the menus can form part of your own personal menu based on how you feel at the moment.

We are fully aware of the fact that our guests spend extended periods of time with us and adore the experience we provide. Every day, Patrick writes up a from-the-market suggetion and offers the beautiful fishes of (the other) Patrick, our friend the whosesale fish merchant and his team from Guilvinec, simply pan cooked or grilled to your liking.

What is more magical than a light lunch on a terrace facing the sea and the Glénan, with a "main dish + dessert" menu which is different every day, a few oysters from Kerdruc, or a beautiful platter of Breton sea food.

The "Men Du" wine cellar reflects the tastes of Pierre Yves

Let us start by speaking of wines by the glass.
The wine is often better than wine in a bottle, and we test the quality of uncorked wine bottles every day to ensure served wine is of perfect quality. A dozen lovely wines are yours to sample by the glass.
It's the perfect occasion to try the appellation wines you are unfamiliar with and to experiment in various flavour combinations (Coteau du layon or Savennières and Cheese, etc.)

You will discover my choice from the Alsace from the vineyard of Mr. Joseph Gruss, and I am very proud to have exclusive rights to his wine in Brittany. He reserves his wine for his own particular clientele, but our families have known each other for forty years!

What to say about our regional wine, Muscadet? It has been mistreated for years, but yet, this Melon vine from Burgundy is incredibly rich. What a pleasure it was to find a wine grower, Véronique Günter Chéreau, an expert proud of her land, who makes working the lees an art form worthy of goldsmiths, who enables me to present spendid vintage wines from 1996 to 2003 (the new vintage, Ancestrale, Muscadet's must-try of the day). The royal gift this year is a few bottles of 1997 reserved in their own cellar and present on each Men Du menu.

The Wines of the Loire familly is the most abundant. There is a tremdous diversity of white wines, and many reds go perfectly with fish. The gems of the year are many, but I would like to mention Claude Papin (Château Pierre Bise) and his sweet Cabernet, the Mabileau husband and wife duo and their Bourguil "Racines" 2005, Alex Mathur and his new Montlouis vintage (still without a name), and the Emperor of white wines, Le Savennières, including an exceptional Baumard 1989.

This year, my most delightful encounter was in Burgundy:

Did you know that, when placed side-by-side, the maman (wine barrel from the previous harvest) and enfants (wine barrel from the latest harvest) tell each other little secrets which permit the education of the little ones by paying heed to the solar calendar? It is not merely a wine; it is an art, and Emmanuel Giboulot (Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Beaune) or Patrick Javillier (Meursault) are the great masters of the future whom you must discover while there's still time.

Let us also discover the Côtes du Rhône wines. You can't fully appreciate the fineness of a Rasteau without tasting Roméro's "cuvée Confiance2002" vintage, the sweetness of a Gigondas without tasting Patrick Chéron's 1999 vintage, the richness of a Saint Joseph without discovering Delas' François de Tournon 2004.

Many new appellation controlée wines to discover from the south of France, as well: magnificent "Vin de Pays" wines and a generation of young talented and bold wine growers to discover, such as the Viognier du Domaine des Homs or the marvelous Saint Chinian d'Yves Falmet.

Finally, you will find great classics from Bordeaux and Champagne, as these wines have earned a reputation for France and deserve to be prominently featured all all the menus of the world.

See you soon !
